Low pyrogenic and pro-inflammatory activity

The barley endosperm cellular background in the Orfeus™ expression system has a very low pyrogenic and pro-inflammatory activity. Using the monocyte activation test (MAT), measuring the induction of known inflammatory-related growth factors, such as IL-6, TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, both the barley endosperm background and the background in the purified ISOkine™ product (GF blank in figure 1) has a similar activity as media alone (neg. control í figure 1), in comparison to the lipopolysaccharide endotoxin (pos. control í figure 1). Furthermore, lectins are undetectable in eluted fractions following chromatography of ISOkine™ growth factors (IGF-1 in figure 2).
