ENDOTOXIN-FREE GROWTH FACTORS INCREASE REPRODUCIBILITY OF STEM CELL RESEARCH
Endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides; LPS) are produced and released by bacteria such as E. coli, which is the most common bacteria used to produce commercial growth factors.
Studies have now revealed that endotoxin contamination accepted in E. coli produced growth factors (1 EU/μg or 0,1 ng/μg), can affect cell cultures. This reduces reproducibility of cultivations, since small fluctuations in these endotoxin contaminants between lots of even the same growth factor, will have varying, unpredictable effect on the cell culture. Therefore, applying endotoxin-free growth factors increases precision and reproducibility of cultures.
